Birthe Nylund Sundt is the CFO of Northern Lights JV DA, where she has led the company’s financial strategy since becoming its first CFO in 2021. With over 20 years of experience in the energy sector, Birthe brings deep expertise from her time at Shell and KPMG, spanning roles across finance, commercial operations, and governance.
A graduate of Strathclyde University with an MSc in Finance, Birthe began her career at KPMG in London before joining Shell in 2004. At Shell, she held a variety of leadership roles across Europe, including Finance Manager for Exploration and Commercial, Country Controller for Shell Norway, and Pension Fund Manager.
At Northern Lights—a pioneering CO₂ transport and storage joint venture owned by Equinor, Shell, and TotalEnergies—Birthe has been instrumental in shaping the company from its early days. Under her financial leadership, the team has grown from 10 to 65 people, with operations set to launch in 2025.
